Open Weekend One

Across Stoke-on-Trent
30 September - 02 October 2011

A great opportunity to see behind closed doors at some of the city’s leading ceramics brands and factory works.  Events will take place across the city over three weekends and include hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes tours, trails, meet the artists and designers, workshops and demonstrations and more.  The final weekend of the festival will focus on selling work from some of the exhibitions plus plenty of special offers at factory shops.

Throwing demonstrations by studio potter David Frith, factory tours with the history of Potclays, hands-on sessions with Teddy Wright and Colleen Carey (Mayco Colours USA), discounts on ceramic supplies.

DEMONSTRATIONS BY ARTIST LESLEY CARTLIDGE
Moorcroft Heritage Visitor Centre, Sandbach Road, Burslem
Saturday 1 October, 10am - 4.30pm

For over 100 years Moorcroft art pottery has been made by hand in Burslem for collectors around the world.  International artist, Lesley Cartlidge will be demonstrating her consummate skills of tube lining and hand painting and taking visitors verbally through the unique making process that each piece of Moorcroft pottery passes through.  With original drawn on green ware from the Moorcroft Design Studio members and original watercolors to peruse, the visitor will have the rare opportunity to witness each stage of our unique making process.

The Moorcroft Museum and demonstration from Lesley Cartlidge are free of charge.

BAREWALL GALLERY
2 - 4 Market Place, Burslem
1 October

Collectable trials, 1offs and No.1’s by Staffordshire ceramic artists including: Anita Harris Art Pottery, Marie Graves, Lyn James and Burslem Pottery.  Live demonstrations by freehand ceramic painter Lyn James and also Tracy Bentley and Steven Shaw of Burslem Pottery.
