Opportunity: BCB Clay Researcher

The British Ceramics Biennial is seeking to appoint a freelance researcher to undertake a 19-month research project to investigate the creative re-use of clay sourced from UK construction spoil. This research opportunity is a partnership between the British Ceramics Biennial and HS2 (High Speed 2), via the HS2 Arts and Culture Team. The research contributes towards the British Ceramics Biennial’s work exploring innovative clay use and environmental responsibility in clay/ceramics practice. The research period comprises 152 research days between summer 2024 and winter 2025. The research days should be regularly spaced over the period with a minimum of 50% of these days based from the British Ceramics Biennial office or studio in Stoke-on-Trent.

Shortlisting will be based upon applicants’ knowledge, skills and ability to undertake effective arts-based research and dissemination; plus experience of clay and working with artists, creative organisations and industry. Applicants without previous research experience may apply.

Fee: £27,360 (152 days @ £180/day)
