The Clay Foundation

The Clay Foundation (TCF)

In February 2015, The Clay Foundation was established as a registered charity, with the express purpose to build on the achievements of BCB and creating a legacy for the City in a new cultural agency.

Its charitable objects are:

“for the public benefit, to promote public appreciation of, and advance public education in, the arts, in particular, but not exclusively, the art of ceramics, in such ways as the charity trustees of the charity may decide”.

Its mission is to build upon the heritage of The Potteries as the home of British ceramics through education, projects and events to stimulate and promote awareness, creativity and innovation across a range of arts and contemporary ceramics practices.

The Clay Foundation’s trustees set the following aims:

  • To continue to build the reputation of Stoke-on-Trent as a cultural city, through the Biennial programme.
  • To help make Stoke-on-Trent an active centre, fostering and giving opportunity for the generation of ideas for new, creative ceramic innovation.
  • To embed within the city the potential for clay as an agent for learning, wellbeing and empowerment.
