Middleport Pottery will be closed to the public on Thursday 10th October. This will include Middleport Studios, Tea Room and Clay College Gallery.

Artists: Guillaume Dujat, Helen Felcey, Joe Hartley, Kelly Jane Jones, Noisy Steve

Alongside an array of site specific installations, the artists invite the public to join them for a weekend of clay-making workshops and sound performances. Workshops will involve people in brick-making, clay joint making and hazel structures on the wharf and on board Middleport’s own stunning narrow boat Dane. Live performances of experimental sound works will also be performed by Guillaume Dujat and invited sound artists.

 

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September will bring a flurry of exciting activity across the Middleport Pottery site. Throughout the day there will be musical performances and special events including artist talks and clay-making workshops on the Wharf. (weather permitting)

 

Saturday 28th September

Clay Workshops
10:00am-10:45am & 11:00am – 11:45am

Free clay workshop, suitable for all ages. Come and join us in creating our installation through brick making, clay joint making and hazel structures our Places limited, booking recommended although there will drop first come first served.

1:00pm – 3:00pm  Sat 28th September
Sound performance, suitable for all ages. 

Join sound artists Guillaume Dujat and Kelly Jane Jones who will present new performance work, expanding on their experience with experimental sound in response to the site. Experience unique sounds in a truly unique setting, not to be missed!

Canalside Writing with Stephen Seabridge
11am-12pm, 2pm-3pm – Middleport Pottery

Join Stephen Seabridge, Poet Laureate of Stoke-on-Trent, for a writing and artistic workshop at our Middleport focus weekend. We will consider the historic significance of the Victorian Pottery Enterprise, Middleport as a site of community focus and the canal as a fluid site of passing. All welcome.
This is a free, drop-in workshop with a maximum of 10 participants.

Sound Making Workshop
10:00am – 4:00pm

Sound artist Noisy Steve will be leading free, drop in workshops throughout the day. Here people will have the chance to explore experimental sound through digital and hands on processes. More on Noisy Steve here.
This is a drop-in activity held throughout the day. No booking required.
