Helen Newman has a ceramics-based practice influenced by the joy of making, and often combines ceramics with other materials. Her practice is a place for reflection and connection to materials. Helen loves the tactile nature of clay and finds working with it to be a grounding experience. Within her practice, she uses repetition, creating hundreds of small shapes, or mark-making, as a way to escape within her making.
Helen loves learning about objects, how they are made, and the connections they have to people and places. Helen has dedicated several years to working with people, creating and leading workshops for galleries and organisations. She encourages the practice of making for a moment of reflection, relaxation, or simply to enjoy having the time to be creative. She feels that everyone should have opportunities to learn and be creative, and she enjoys sharing her creativity with others.
