Dave Dowler is the Studio Assistant at the BCB Studio. He has joined us from the University of Staffordshire where he worked for 25 years providing technical support in a range of practical, student-facing workshops. This included 15 years supervising and supporting students in the extensive ceramic facilities. He has experience of both industrial and craft-based ceramics.
In his role as Studio Assistant, he works alongside the Studio Officer in providing access to and supporting the users of the BCB Studio facilities, which are used by studio members, associate artists and resident artists.
Dave’s own ceramic practice is mainly wheel-thrown and leans towards functional forms. His own practice reflects his environmental concerns relating to ceramic production and the processing of ceramic raw materials. He is currently looking at reducing, where possible, his use of industrially processed materials, swapping them for unprocessed or waste materials.
