Join us at The Production Line Saturday 21st September and gain an insight into the process of plaster mould making, from start to finish, with master mould make Ed Bentley, who made the moulds for the collection of Contemporary flatbacks in the Cultural Icons exhibition.

Ed has taught at various colleges and Universities nationally and has given talks and demonstrations in various other countries. He makes plaster models and moulds for small batch ceramic production and offers a range of classes in shape design, technical drawing, hand modelling, and mould making from his studio within the former Spode factory. This a free, drop-in workshop – Ed will talk you through the processes he uses to make moulds of varying complexity using examples of his work.

The Production Line is a workspace set up in the China Hall where visitors will have opportunities to watch or get involved in making a contemporary Staffordshire flat-back figurine, or join in the production of slip cast figures for the Cast of 1000’s projectMembers of the public will be learning how to make from the community of makers who have been involved in producing a special edition of Flatbacks for the Cultural Icons BCBexhibition at Potteries Museum and Art Gallery.It is a space to bring people together and share knowledge. It is a chance for connecting with painters and makers in the industry who form part of the process of ceramic production and who have skills and experience to pass on to others through demonstration and hands-on activities.
