Help shape the next generation of artists working with clay.
The British Ceramics Biennial (BCB) Mentorship programme supports early-career creatives working in clay who face barriers progressing in their career and accessing a professional network in contemporary ceramics. These barriers can take many forms and often have little to do with talent. They’re about access: to the right advice at the right time, and the confidence that comes from having someone experienced in their corner.
We are looking for established artists, curators or arts professionals who are passionate about supporting early-career artists working in clay, and who are willing to share their knowledge, skills and expertise with someone starting out in the field, including those who may need additional support or a more flexible approach to make the most of the opportunity.

How it works
- Applications are open to UK-based mentors only
- Time commitments: Four online mentoring sessions (1 hour each). The timings will depend on the availability of mentees and mentors (Please read the application guidance for more detailed information)
- Applications reviewed and mentor-mentee pairs matched between 2 – 8 October 2026
- You and your mentee agree on a schedule
- Mentoring runs from October 2026 – January 2027, via a series of online sessions
Freelance Fee: £300 (including VAT if applicable)
Applications Close: 12 noon BST, 22 September 2026
Programme duration: October 2026 – January 2027
Please note that the entire programme will be delivered online.
How to apply
The application form is available on the BCB website.
The application consists of two questions, which you can respond to in audio, video or written form. Recordings should be no more than 3 minutes.
Applicants must also complete the online Diversity and Equality Monitoring Form.
