Raverina’s Dance Floor
- Visiting information
- During the Biennial, visiting hours are 10am to 4pm
Location: Space C
Portuguese artist Carolina Garfo presents a sensory artwork exploring the intersection between sound and ceramics.
Inspired by the ceramic practices of the Algarve, the project realises a scene from Carolina’s fictional film Raverina (2023). The film depicts a ritual procession in which the inhabitants of Alsobio carry bricks and place them by the seashore. When the tide rises, the water enters the bricks and produces a melody, which invites the rain to bathe Alsobio, marking the beginning of the season of ‘rave’ dances.
The installation brings together visual art, sound art and construction techniques. It promotes the collaboration of artists, artisans and engineers, exploring new ways of integrating technology and art and bringing together artisanal practices and contemporary thinking. Carolina’s practice incorporates relationship creation with rural communities, combining her experimental approach with local traditions.
