About Factory – Ceramic Study Day
Staffordshire based makers/designers/artists are invited to a ceramics study day in Stoke-on-Trent on 15th September, to coincide with the 2021 British Ceramics Biennial.
This event is a jam-packed ceramics study day visiting Heraldic Pottery, Duchess China 1888 and the BCB festival. The tours at Heraldic Pottery and Duchess China 1888 will be led by joint Managing Director Jason Simms. You’ll learn about:
- High quality production processes including decal printing and application.
- Ceramic production in Stoke-on-Trent.
- Working with industry to produce a line of products.
- Costs involved and who to contact.
The tours at Heraldic Pottery and Duchess China 1888 will be followed by a tour of the BCB festival.
This study day is through partnership with Design Nation and so you’ll have the chance to meet other creatives and designers as part of this trip.

Delivered By
Jason Simms will lead the tours in both Heraldic Pottery and Duchess China 1888. Jason is joint Managing Director of Duchess China 1888 and Heraldic Pottery. Jason originally trained in the ceramics industry and was a Designer for Wedgwood before starting out his business ventures with joint Managing Director Andy Tooth.

On the Day

We will meet outside the railway station at 9.45am where a private coach will pick up participants and provide transport throughout the day, before returning to the station at approx. 5pm

Tour of Heraldic Pottery Ltd by Jason Simms. Heraldic specialise in production of hand-printed decals which they apply to chinaware.

Tour of the Duchess China 1888 factory by Jason Simms, joint Managing Director of Duchess China 1888 and Heraldic Pottery. Duchess China produces whiteware and other designs, and ranges for artists, craft makers and designers.

Tour of the British Ceramics Biennial with Rhiannon Ewing-James Creative Producer, BCB, followed by time to look around independently.
