Disrupting Perfection

Jenny’s ceramic practice is rooted in the quiet necessity of making. What began as a search for calm within the chaos of PTSD and anxiety became a tactile language – one that allows her to speak through material where words fall short. She is drawn to natural imperfection: irregular forms, subtle shifts, marks left by the hand. These elements – fragile yet intentional – reflect a tension she often carries between control and release.

Her work captures movement held in pause – a sweep of gesture, a breath caught in porcelain. Embracing translucency, suspended forms and layered surfaces, Jenny explores contrast not as opposition, but as balance: strength within softness, chaos within calm.

See Jenny’s work, along with the rest of the University of Staffordshire MA Ceramics cohort, in Space F on the Spode Works Site from 6 September to 19 October 2025.
