Award films 2025 – Kyra Cane

Media category
Film

Award is the British Ceramics Biennial’s headline exhibition. It invites ten selected artists to tread new ground, use the momentum of the exhibition to focus or make a step change in their practice or to present work in ways it hasn’t previously been experienced.

About the Award films

Each film introduces the Award artists and shares how, where and why they make their work. Created by acclaimed filmmakers Lucy and Cameron of Elastic Pie Films, they reveal clay to be a rich material for storytelling, experimentation, playfulness, risk-taking and activism.

Kyra Cane is part of the Award exhibition at Spode Works, open daily 10am-4pm from 6 September – 19 October 2025.

About the artist

Kyra Cane’s way of making is to observe and seek understanding of the ceramic materials and processes she uses.Kyra uses clay to explore how the climate crisis is causing the weather and seasons to become increasingly extreme. Using porcelain, her experimental thrown vessels expose the fragility of ever-changing landscapes.

For Award 2025, Kyra will embrace what happens when you impose unacceptable conditions on ceramic structures. A precarious collection of related forms, ranging from flawless to distorted and damaged, will demonstrate the impact of abusing inherently beautiful structures.
