Media category
Artist Talk Recorded talk

During the 2025 British Ceramic Biennial, visitors had the chance to meet and hear from some of the talented artists exhibiting. The Artist Talks provide a unique insight into the work and careers of some of the artists and the work they have created especially for the 2025 Biennial.

Family by Daniel Silver

Daniel’s work for Award 2025 is a collection of sculpted heads examining the tactile nature of materials. Clay serves as the foundation, holding the marks of the maker’s hands and fingers, before layering oil paint onto the surface as a skin.

About the Artist

The sculptures of Daniel Silver (b. 1972, London) explore the many forms and presences of the human body. His practice is influenced by the art of the ancient world, modernism, Sigmund Freud and psychoanalytic theories.

Daniel uses concrete, bronze, marble, stone, wood and clay and his works often manifest as monuments or fragments. He uses sculpture to explore what it is to be human, both physically and psychologically. Recent shows include the Bloomberg Space commission, Fruitmarket in Edinburgh, the CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo, Art Parcours at the Antiken museum in Basel and Dig an Artangel commission.
