BCB 2025 Artist Talks: Kyra Cane
During the 2025 British Ceramic Biennial, visitors had the chance to meet and hear from some of the talented artists exhibiting. The Artist Talks provide a unique insight into the work and careers of some of the artists and the work they have created especially for the 2025 Biennial.
Challenging Terrain by Kyra Cane
In her work for Award 2025, Kyra compares the relationships and tension points found between maker and material to those between people and the environment. Using the familiar domestic form of the bowl, she introduces purposeful stresses to make evident forces and near-breaking points in the making process.
About the Artist
Kyra Cane has been making pots, selling and exhibiting work since graduating from Camberwell College of Art in 1985. Her current studio is at the Harley Foundation in Welbeck, Nottinghamshire. She taught part-time in her early career, most notably as Course Leader of the Harrow Ceramics Course at the University of Westminster. Her book, ‘Making and Drawing’, explores the ways in which artists use drawing to inform, inspire and create their work.
