Fresh

Original Spode Factory Site
30 September - 13 November 2011
10am - 5pm Tuesday - Saturday, 12 - 5pm Sunday. Closed Monday.

FRESH for 2011 presents the vitality and creative curiosity of those currently working with ceramics at secondary, HE and post-graduate research levels across the UK in 2010 and 2011.

Building on the success of the 2009 installation at Emma Bridgewater, this year FRESH will be installed in part of the former Spode factory, once more utilizing redundant furniture and equipment. In addition to the 40 graduates’ work, there will also be an opportunity to experience Firing Up, the Crafts Council’s new project that aims to re-invigorate the learning of ceramics in secondary schools. Finally, a new element - RE-FRESH - features ceramic innovation being explored by artists Steve Brown, Dave Sanderson/Staffordshire University,  Kim Norton, CJ O'Neill and Brigitte Jurack working in Higher Education Research Centres.

FRESH will be co-curated by the BCB Directors and NACHE, the National Association of Ceramics in Higher Education, whose partnership with the Biennial forms an important platform for the advocacy for sustaining ceramics in higher education.

A new bursary award for FRESH has been initiated, offering a residency opportunity for a new graduate at the EKWC in The Netherlands.

BCB are grateful to Emma Bridgewater for generously providing the 2011 bursary.

Admission to this exhibition is free.
