From Waste to Resource Conference – Excavation Waste London Clay Utilisation in Concrete Applications

Guest Speaker: Apostolos Tsoumelekas
Apostolos Tsoumelekas, CEng CEnv MIMMM MICT FGS, is a Materials Engineering Manager for Skanska UK and SCSjv. He has over 15 years of experience in Materials Engineering, specialising in concrete technology, soils engineering and rock mechanics. He also leads and provides technical support for innovative resource-efficient and carbon-saving initiatives through his involvement in major infrastructure projects.
Apostolos will discuss the importance of wider collaboration between industry and academia to achieve a common goal, providing the construction industry with an abundant resource of Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM) for use in concrete, replacing Portland Cement. He will also provide an insight into the IUK-funded Ex-Clay Innovation Project, which is upscaling the findings of the HS2-funded REAL feasibility study.
